KUALA LUMPUR: A moneylender's employee almost got away with RM250,000 after claiming that he was abducted and forced to hand over the cash to three parang-wielding men.
The 20-year-old worker told police that he was with a friend when three men grabbed and forced them to enter the office and remove the money from the safe last week.
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Sofian Md Yassin said his officers became suspicious after recording statements from the employee and his friend.
“After studying their report and statements we suspected something amiss and within 12 hours detained the two together with another friend of theirs for questioning.
“After questioning, we raided a house in Taman Kok Lian, Cheras, where we found RM143,000 in 32 currencies including US dollars stashed in two plastic bags,” he added.
ACP Ahmad Sofian said police were looking for another man to assist in investigations. The three are expected to be charged in court today.
