MUAR: A gang of eight robbers believed Indonesians and armed with parang and chains went on a robbing spree in five farms, including workers’ hostels, near Bukit Pasir here.
The robbers, who spoke in Javanese and had their faces covered with some clothing, first entered a durian plantation before moving on to four farms nearby.
The incident took place between 3am and 5am Thursday and the robbers ended up taking away a total of RM2,300 cash, 16 cellular handsets, one DVD player and one Seiko watch.
According to a Nepalese worker at KCG Nursery the robbers first raided a hostel in nearby durian plantation before entering his hostel and robbed him and 12 others of RM500 cash, three handsets, one DVD player and a Seiko watch.
He said the robbers used a gas cylinder to break open the door of their hostel and threatening the workers with parang and chain before taking away their belongings.
After robbing the Nepalese workers, the robbers then went to the Tan Ah Kuan Nursery plot nearby and robbed five Indonesian workers off RM500 and two handsets.
An Indonesian worker said the robbers spoke in Javanese and he believed the robbers were also Indonesians and could be known to them as they covered their faces.
From Tan Ah Kuan nursery, the robbers then moved on to nearby Seng Giap plantation hostel where they robbed nine Indonesian workers off eight handsets and RM300 cash.
Plantation manager Ho Kwee Chuan said after robbing the workers the robbers went to his office and took away RM1,000 cash and three handsets from the office.
He said two Indonesian men and a woman were in the office and the robbers hit the two men with the chain, causing injuries to their heads and back.
He said he had to rushed them to the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital where they were given outpatient treatment before he made police report.
Muar CID chief Deputy Supt. Khoo Leng Huat, when contacted, confirmed the incidents and said police had launched investigation into the robberies. - Sumber
