Kota Star district acting police chief DSP Feisal Libertus Abdullah said the van driver had earlier rammed his vehicle into Zakaria's Proton Wira from the rear in Mergong, some 3km away from the junction.
Zakaria sped off but the suspect, 40, caught up with him at the junction where an argument broke out.
Zakaria flagged a taxi which took him to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital.
