IPOH: A jobless man, who charged at policemen with a parang (machete), was shot on his right thigh during a routine crime check.
In the 3am incident on Wednesday at Felda Bersia near Tasik Temenggor, about 110km from here, the 27-year-old man charged at the group of 10 policemen who went to his house following a report that he was behaving suspiciously.
Hulu Perak OCPD Supt Mahad Nor said the policemen had called the man to come out.
"Suddenly, the man rushed out of the house and charged at my men with a parang,” he said on Wednesday.
One of the policemen who fell took out his pistol and shot the man.
“My man was forced to act in self-defence,” Supt Mahad said, adding that only one shot was fired.
